37th Milo Marathon expects 200,000 runners

MORE than 200,000 runners from all over the country are expected to join the 37th Milo National Marathon set to start on June 30 in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Milo sports executive Andrew Neri said that the 18-leg marathon offers cash prizes in the 3-kilometer kiddie run, 5-k fun run, 10-k run and 21-k run categories.

The winners in the 42.195 men and women’s divisions of the national finals will receive P300,000 each while the victor in the local open categories will get P150,000 each.

Neri said that the 2013 Milo Marathon King and Queen would represent the Philippines in the 2014 Paris International Marathon in France.

Defending champions Eduardo Buenavista and Mary Grace delos San­tos are expecting tough challenge from Kenyan and Ethiopian runners.

After the June 30 Puerto Princesa leg, the event will transfer to Lipa City on July 7, Naga City on July 14, San Pablo, Laguna on July 21, Manila on July 28, Iloilo on August 4, Dumaguete on August 11, Tagbila­ran on September 15, Cebu on September 22, Cagayan de Oro on September 29, Butuan on October 6, Davao on October 13, General Santos on October 20, Baguio on November 3, Dagupan on November 10, Tarlac on November 17, Angeles City on November 24 and the Mall of Asia ground in Pasay City on December 8 for the national finals.
