Biado finishes fourth in Ultimate 10-Ball

Unheralded Carlo Biado finished fourth overall in the Ultimate 10-Ball Championships held at the Harrah’s Resort in Tunica, Mississippi.

Biado ousted compatriot Alex Pagulayan in their do-or-die game to advance to the first semifinals stage against Darren Appleton of Great Britain. But Biado failed to sustain his momentum and absorbed a heartbreaking 9-10 decision to Appleton.

Biado, nonetheless, pocketed a $7,550 consolation purse while Pagulayan and Niels Fiejen of the Netherlands shared the fifth spot and got $6,275 each.

Mika Immonen of Finland went undefeated to rule the tournament and earned a whopping $23,550 top prize. Chinese Wang Can finished second for a $14,250 runner-up purse while Appleton wound up third for $10,100.

Immonen defeated Wang in the finals, 12-5. Wang made it to the finals by toppling Appleton in the second semifinal phase, 10-7.

The other Filipino entries were Francisco “Django” Bustamante (13th to 16th places, $2,050), Lee Van Corteza and Dennis Orcollo (17th to 24th, $1,700 each), and Efren “Bata” Reyes and Warren Kiamco (25th to 32nd, $1,225 each).
