LOCOG issue statement on tennis tickets

August 18, 2013

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games have released a statement following some fans’ anger on day seven of the Olympic tennis event at Wimbledon.

Supporters with tickets for the No. 1 Court at the All England Club arrived disappointed this morning as they learned they would only see one singles semi-final, after the tickets said they would see one men’s semi and one women’s.

Three of the four singles semis are on Centre Court, with both men’s last-four encounters on the bigger showcourt.

However, due to the consistent rain over the week at SW19, organisers had to reschedule the order of play to accommodate some of the players who are also in doubles action.

LOCOG quoted a statement on the London 2012 website that read: “All Games schedules advertised were correct as of Monday July 16, 2012. They however can change between this date and the date of the competition.

“Playing at least three semi-finals on Centre Court ensures completion as the roof can be deployed in the event of more inclement weather.

“Four of the players on Centre Court (Victoria Azarenka, Juan Martin del Potro, Andy Murray and Serena Williams) are still involved in a doubles competition and this gives us the best chance of keeping the programme on schedule.”
