Maria Sharapova vows to improve after Olympic defeat

August 17, 2013

Maria Sharapova has insisted that her recent defeat to Serena Williams at the Olympics will motivate her to improve for the upcoming US Open.

The Russian was swept away 6-0 6-1 at Wimbledon on Saturday as she picked up a silver medal for Russia in what was her first ever Games.

“If I sat here and thought there was nothing I could do, that would probably be very disappointing,” said Sharapova.

“It will motivate me to keep going and keep practising. There are certainly things I could have done better but she was playing really good tennis.”

Sharapova will play either Arantxa Rus or Christina McHale in the second round of this week’s Montreal Cup.
