Michael Stich counters Andy Murray’s argument

Former Wimbledon champion Michael Stich has responded to Andy Murray’s suggestion that the current tennis schedule is overcrowded.

The Great British number one yesterday claimed that the players could strike if changes are not made to the calendar.

However, 42-year-old Stich has slammed Murray’s opinion and believes that he played more tennis than the current generation.

“The tournaments provide them with jobs,” he told BBC Radio 5 live. “They have shorter seasons than we used to have.

“I never complained about the schedule and I played singles and doubles.

“Murray doesn’t even play four rounds of Davis Cup. The players want to earn more money but want to give less.”

Stich’s solo success at SW19 came in 1991.
