Netter Huey, partner advance in London
August 18, 2013Filipino-American Treat Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot scored a straight-set victory to advance to the second round of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships men’s doubles being held in London, England.
The No. 16 seeds Huey and Inglot nailed a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 opening-round victory over Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut and Daniel Gimeno-Traver. The game lasted for one hour and 37 minutes.
Huey and Inglot registered a total of 108 points including 16 aces and 21 winners while Agut and Gimeno-Traver got a measly 85-point output with only two aces and nine winners. Huey and Inglot won four of 10 break points.
Huey and Inglot will be facing the unseeded German tandem of Andre Begemann and Martin Emmricj, a 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-1 winner over Americans Denis Kudla and Tim Smyczek.
Huey and Inglot have already surpassed their first-round finish in the past three editions of the Grand Slam tournament. For reaching the second round, they are now assured of 12,00 Euros.
However, Huey and Inglot are in a possible third-round meeting with the No. 1 pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, owner of the 2012 London Olympics gold medal and many-time Grand Slam doubles champion. The Bryan brothers are in the upper half of the draw along with Huey and Inglot.
In mixed doubles, Huey will be playing with American Raquel Kops-Jones. They advanced to the second round via walk over. Huey and Kops-Jones are just awaiting the winners of the first-round match between Julian Knowle of Austria and Zhang Shuai of China, and Australians John Peers and Ashleigh Barty.
