Nolte finishes third in Malaysia chess meet

Filipino International Master (IM) Rolando Nolte finished third overall in the DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Invitational Kuala Lumpur Masters 2013 held at the Swiss Inn in Malaysia.

Nolte split the point with Woman Grandmaster (GM) Padmini Rout of India in the ninth round and defeated IM Aleksandar Wohl of Australia in the final round. He collected a total score of seven points on five wins, four draws and one loss in the 10-round tournament.

Top seed GM Sergei Tiviakov of the Netherlands, who beat Nolte in the seventh round, finished with nine points to claim the top honors while GM Thomas Luther of Germany earned 7.5 points to settle for second.

IM Oliver Dimakiling shared the eighth spot with Rout with identical four points.

GM Niaz Murshed of Bangladesh wound up fourth with 5.5 points followed by IM Ramnath Bhuvanesh of India and IM Goh Wei Ming of Singapore with five points each, IM Mas Hafizulhelmi of Malaysia with 4.5 points, Rout and Dimakiling, IM Aleksandar Wohl of Australia with 3.5 points and GM Wong Meng Kong of Singapore.
