PH jins shine in Jakarta Championship

The national junior tae kwon do poomsae team won two gold and two bronze medals in the 2nd Junior Asian Poomsae Championships held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

World Championships gold medalist Mikaela Calamba of University of San Carlos led the charge of the junior jins by winning gold medal in the girls’ individual freestyle category.

Rinna Babanto of Abellana National High School and Macmac Alob of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu secured the second gold as they topped the junior mixed pair division.

The bronze medals were from Meagan Bugarin, Jo Minobla and Juvie Crisostomo in the girls’ team event, and Alob, Rico Mella and Al Fritz in the boys’ team category.

Recently, the national tae kwon do team got 12 golds, 14 silvers and 14 bronzes in the 2013 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Tae kwon do Championships held in Yangon, Myanmar.

The gold medalists were Kirstie Elaine Alora and Anjelay Pelaez (senior women’s kyorugi), Francis Aaron Agojo, Gershon Bautista, Christian Al Dela Cruz and Kristopher Robert Uy (senior men’s kyorugi), Enrique Edgardo Mora IV, Juan Miguel Ramos and Aries Capispisan (junior men kyorugi), and Irene Therese Bermejo, Bea Muriel Go and Reign Charm Ragutana (junior women kyorugi).
