At the age of just 22, Irishman Rory McIlroy built upon his successful 2011 by becoming the number one ranked golfer in the world on Sunday evening when he won the Honda Classic.
They say behind every great man there is a great woman and McIlroy is no different.
In fact, McIlroy’s other half has arguably had more triumphs in the world of sport than he has.
McIlroy has been dating Caroline Wozniacki, the Danish tennis player, since the middle of last year.
Like her boyfriend, Wozniacki has also held the title of the best in the world in her field. She was ranked number one in the WTA rankings for 67 consecutive weeks until January of this year.
Since breaking through onto the pro circuit in 2005, Odense-born Wozniacki’s career has gone from strength to strength.
However, despite winning a large number of WTA titles, Wozniacki has yet to secure a Grand Slam trophy.
It appears that the couple’s relationship has been based around sport from the very beginning. They were first introduced at a boxing match in Germany nine months ago before becoming an item weeks later.
In further sporting activity, the pair hit the headlines this week when Wozniacki invited McIlroy onto the court to have a rally with Maria Sharapova at Madison Square Gardens.
As a couple, they have both admitted to taking part in banter against each other regarding their world rankings, McIlroy having been rated as number two for a long period behind Luke Donald.
Being a competitive sportsman, with the tables having now turned, it would be unsurprising to learn that McIlroy is now returning those taunts!
