UE Red Warriors ready to wreak havoc in Season 76

August 18, 2013

The University of the East Red Warriors are all set for the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 which will begin on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Red Warriors head coach Boycie Zamar expressed readiness saying: “I am pleased to announce that UE is ready for the UAAP.”

Zamar, who replaced former UE coach Jerry Codinera in the middle of the Season 75, also reiterated his commitment to UE after being named recently as assistant coach of the Barangay Ginebra Kings in the Philippine Basketball Association.

“I think there will be no problem [being part of Ginebra’s coaching staff and being the head coach of UE] since there are also some coaches in the UAAP who are also members of the coaching staff in other PBA teams. But if there’s any, I’ll prioritize UE,” he said.

UE will begin its campaign against Far Eastern University in the opening day at 2 p.m. right after the opening ceremonies at 1 p.m.

The Red Warriors are fresh from winning the FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup where they defeated National University 81-68, in the finals.

Roi Sumang and Charles Mammie, the 6-foot-7 Sierra Leone native, are expected to spearhead the team’s campaign along with Michael Noble, Chris Javier, Lord Casajeros, Ralf Olivarez, Adrian Santos, Jairold Flores and Jhon Rey Sumido.

The rookies to watch are La Salle Greenhills’ Mario Emmanuel Bonleon, Hope Christian High School’s Leo Guion and San Sebastian College-Recoletos’ Gino Jumao-as.

“We just need to be consistent plus discipline and determination. Our target is to make it to the Final Four first. It’s a wide-open race this season. All teams are strong and we need to be prepared each and every game,” said Zamar.
